How to Play Doodle Empires

Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started:

1. Begin by creating your first nation by selecting a border color and typing in a name.

2. Draw the borders of your new nation onto the map, keeping an eye on your remaining drawing power displayed at the top.

3. Once you exhaust your drawing power, click on the nation to open the nation inspector and select the nation.

4. Draw a new card from the top right corner, which allows you to further customize the selected nation.

5. Repeat this process to shape and evolve your nation.

Card Types in Doodle Empires

Doodle Empires features several card types that help shape your nations:

1. Expand Cards: These come in three sizes – small, medium, and large – allowing you to expand your nation’s borders. Note that expanding into unclaimed territory is significantly cheaper than expanding into neighboring land.

2. Split Cards: With two types – regular split and small split – you can carve out a new nation from a portion of an existing one.

3. Union Cards: This card allows your selected nation to fully annex another nation, similar to a royal union.

4. New Nation Cards: These cards enable you to create a completely new nation, just like you did at the start of the game, giving you the opportunity to form a new Origin Group.

Map Modes in Doodle Empires

Doodle Empires offers two map modes to enhance your gameplay experience:

1. Political Mode: This mode displays the borders of all nations on the map.

2. Origin Mode: This mode shows the original nation each current nation splits off from, acting as a cultural group map. Additionally, a nation’s origin can be viewed in its nation inspector.

Future Mechanics and Updates

Doodle Empires is still in its early stages, and there are many exciting features on the horizon. Planned updates include:

– Leaders with traits that influence their nation’s future.

– Founding and adopting religions to enrich your nations.

– Creating tribes that can migrate and eventually settle, adding another layer of complexity.

– Disaster cards that cause nations to lose land to the wilderness, introducing unpredictability.

– Historical Ages cards that make certain cards more common during specific periods, adding depth.

– Various quality-of-life additions such as map sizes, brush sizes, lists of extinct nations, UI design improvements, music/sound enhancements, and more. As development progresses, this list will continue to evolve.

The developer behind Doodle Empires is Tanner/TanTan, who has been passionate about historical map strategy games since middle school. Inspired by drawing on maps using paint apps and observing others use spinning wheels with country names and events, Tanner decided to turn these ideas into a real game with endless possibilities and added randomness from drawing cards.
